Finding forever homes

Answers to common questions about adopting, fostering and listing pets — and what every badge and colour on the pet cards means.
What the badges on pet cards and pet pages mean. On phones, health shows as coloured circles; computers add the words.
Available, vaccinated and spayed or neutered — ready to go home.
Looking for a home. Some health steps may still be due — check the health badges.
Someone is already in the process of adopting this pet. You can still message the rescuer.
Lives in a temporary foster home and is still looking for a family.
Found a home. Adopted pets stay on the site as happy endings.
How long the pet has been on Adopt.ge. “New!” means it was just added. Shown on computers.
Vaccination. Green: vaccinated. Orange: still needs vaccines. Blue: too young — under 2 months. On phones you see only the coloured circle.
Spaying or neutering. Green: done. Orange: still needed. Blue: too young — under 6 months.
On narrow cards, vaccination and neutering share one badge, with the same colours.
The rescuer says this pet can travel to another country. Travel is arranged with the rescuer.
Blue: boy. Pink: girl.
Two pets in one listing. The pet page says if they must go together, would like to, or can be adopted separately.
Puppies or kittens from one litter, listed together. The badge shows how many still need a home.
This cat’s claws were removed. It can’t defend itself outdoors, so it should live indoors.
Blood test for the FIV and FeLV viruses. Green: negative. Red: positive. Grey: result not known.
An indoor-only cat that should stay indoors in its new home too.
How the dog gets on with cats. Green: good with cats. Red: not good with cats. Grey: not known.
The Adopt.ge team reviewed and approved this foster.
Free: fosters at no charge. Paid: asks for a fee — agree on it first. Not set: ask the foster.
Green dot: can take a pet now. Grey dot: on a break and not taking pets.
Find a dog or cat you like on the dogs or cats page and open its page. Read its details and story, then tap Contact via WhatsApp to message the person caring for it — its rescuer. You agree on meeting the pet and the next steps directly with them.

No. Adopting through Adopt.ge is free: the site never charges adopters, doesn’t sell animals and doesn’t take payments for them. After adoption, food, vet care and other costs are yours, so plan for them before you adopt.
Yes — ask the rescuer when you message them. Meeting the pet, home visits and the adoption itself are arranged between you and the rescuer. Adopt.ge connects you; each rescuer decides on their own adoptions.
Yes. Pending means someone is already in the process of adopting the pet, but adoptions sometimes fall through, so you can still message the rescuer. Fostered means the pet lives in a temporary home while it waits for a family — it is still looking for one. See Badges and colours for every label.
It depends. For a pair, the pet page says whether they must be adopted together, prefer a home together, or can be adopted separately. For a litter of puppies or kittens, the page shows each one with its own status — ask the rescuer about the one you like.
Rescuers can list pets only after the Adopt.ge team approves their application, and their WhatsApp number is verified. A rescuer’s first pet is checked by the team before it appears on the site. The details on each page come from the rescuer, so ask them to confirm anything important, such as health and vaccination records.
A foster gives a rescued pet a temporary home until it finds a family. You can browse foster homes in the foster directory.
Fill in the form on the Become a Foster page: about you, your home, which pets you can take, and practical details. You’ll need a Georgian mobile number on WhatsApp — we send a code to confirm it. The Adopt.ge team reviews every application; once you’re approved, you get an email to set your password and your profile appears in the foster directory.
Open an available foster’s profile and tap Reveal phone to see their number (there’s a daily limit, to prevent misuse). Fosters who are on a break are listed separately and can’t be contacted until they’re available again.
A free foster cares for pets at no charge. A paid foster asks for a fee — agree on the amount and what it covers directly with the foster before the pet moves in. Adopt.ge doesn’t handle these payments.
Switch your status to on break in your foster dashboard. Your profile moves to the on-break list and nobody can reveal your number. Please keep your profile up to date: if it isn’t updated for 30 days we send a reminder, and after 45 days it is set to on break automatically.
Apply as a rescuer on the Register page — as a person, a shelter or an organisation. After the Adopt.ge team approves you, you get an email to set your password and can add pets from your dashboard. Your first pet is checked by the team before it goes live; after that, pets appear as soon as you publish them.
No. Listing pets on Adopt.ge is free.
Adopters contact you through the WhatsApp button on your pet’s page, so the number must be correct and really yours. When you add or change a number, tap Verify on WhatsApp next to it and enter the code we send.
Out-of-date listings disappoint adopters, so we remind you to check that each pet’s details and status are still right. Updating the pet starts the reminders over. If a listing stays without an update for a long time after several reminders, it is hidden until you publish it again.
Congratulations! Open the pet in your dashboard and set its status to Adopted. It stays on the site with a grey Adopted badge as a happy ending, and its contact button is switched off.
Open the pet in your dashboard and choose Request Deletion. The Adopt.ge team confirms the request and removes the listing. If the pet was adopted, mark it Adopted instead — everyone likes to see happy endings.
Only approved rescuers can list pets. Contact a rescue group from the Organisations page — or apply as a rescuer if you can care for the animal until it’s adopted.
Adopt.ge is a free, volunteer-run platform that helps rescued dogs and cats in Georgia find families. Rescuers and organisations list the pets; you can find rescue groups on the Organisations page. Adopt.ge itself isn’t a shelter.
Share pets you like with friends — it really helps them get noticed. You can also become a foster or donate: the Donations page shows how. Donations help cover hosting and social media outreach, and food and medicine for street animals.
See the Vet clinics page. In an emergency, call a clinic directly.
Use the Contact Us form at the bottom of any page. For questions about a specific pet, message its rescuer — they know the pet best.
Send us a message and we’ll get back to you.
